McAfee recommends that you read the entire document. _____________________________________________________ CONTENTS * Features * Installation and System Requirements * Known Issues * Configuring Your Web Browser * Documentation * Contacting McAfee * Copyright and License Agreement _____________________________________________________ FEATURES VirusScan USB provides the following features. - Real-time monitoring When enabled, the VirusScan USB real-time monitor constantly monitors your USB device for file changes (for example, a new file added to the device or a modification made to a file already on the device). If the real-time monitor detects a file change, VirusScan USB scans the affected file for virus activity. If a virus or Trojan is detected, VirusScan USB tries to clean it; if it cannot be cleaned, VirusScan USB tries to rename it. By default, real-time monitoring is enabled. - On-demand scanning On-demand scanning lets you scan your USB device for viruses and Trojans at any time. For example, if you just added a program or file to your USB device, you can scan the device to ensure that the program or file is not infected. If a virus or Trojan is detected, VirusScan USB tries to clean it; if it cannot be cleaned, VirusScan USB tries to rename it. _____________________________________________________ INSTALLATION AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS * Microsoft® Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, Windows XP * Personal computer with Pentium-compatible processor 400 MHz or higher * 128 MB RAM * 20 MB free disk space (minimum) * USB device that uses the U3 platform (U3 Launchpad) and has at least 20 MB free disk space * Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0 or later Note: To upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer, visit the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/. _____________________________________________________ KNOWN ISSUES If you run VirusScan USB on Windows 2000, and then remove VirusScan USB (by clicking the Remove button in the U3 Launchpad), the VirusScan USB application files are not automatically removed from your U3 device. In the Italian and French versions of VirusScan USB, the View Scan Results page displays folder names that are 45 characters or less. If the folder name exceeds 45 characters, the name is truncated and the file name is not displayed. If you log in to Windows using a Guest account and your computer enters hibernation mode at the end of a scan, your VirusScan USB subscription expires prematurely. However, if you eject and then reconnect your USB device, your subscription is validated again. This issue does not occur if you log in as an Administrator or if your computer enters standby mode. If you delete a virus detection from the View Scan Results page, and then immediately click the Finish button, an error appears. However, the virus detection is deleted successfully. The VirusScan USB registration wizard does not accept foreign characters in the e-mail address or password boxes. If VirusScan USB recommends that you eject your U3 device, the U3 Launchpad assumes that an error has occurred and displays the unsafe ejection message upon reinsertion of your U3 device. This is standard U3 Launchpad behavior. If you try to install the same version of VirusScan USB on two U3 devices simultaneously, the second installation fails. This issue will be corrected in future versions of VirusScan USB. If you install VirusScan USB on a U3 device that already has a previous version of VirusScan USB, the file size is sometimes listed as N/A on the U3 Program Manager Console. To repair this issue, remove the previous version of VirusScan USB before installing another version. During registration, you might receive an error message indicating that your computer is not connected to the Internet and that you need to restart VirusScan USB after connecting. However, once you connect to the Internet, you can continue with the current registration without restarting. After updating VirusScan USB, the DAT version listed in the Program Summary pane is not updated until you restart VirusScan USB. However, the updated DATs are correctly applied to the currently running scan. _____________________________________________________ CONFIGURING YOUR WEB BROWSER Scripting languages, such as JavaScript and VBScript, bring dynamic and interactive features to Web sites.
